What is a Bachelor's Degree?



A bachelor’s degree is a four-year degree. Here typically takes four years of full-time study to complete our bachelor’s degree. A bachelor’s is also a post-secondary undergraduate degree.  The term “college degree” meant a bachelor’s four-year degree. Sometimes they are also sometimes called baccalaureate degrees. Accredited liberal arts colleges award most of the bachelor degrees in the United States. Post-secondary degree awarded to an individual after the completion of undergraduate course work usually taking eight semesters and 120 credits to complete.


 Course work for bachelor's degrees is done at the undergraduate level. Its made up of general studies and major specific classes. Bachelor's degrees are awarded in specific concentration. They are built on the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, or Bachelor of Fine Arts foundations. Individuals pursue bachelor's degrees to further their education and career advancement. For all types of bachelor degrees, there Liberal arts classes are required. 

In most cases, more than half of a bachelor’s degree consists of general education or liberal arts courses. Here it’s used in areas such as English, critical thinking, psychology, history and mathematics. The bachelor’s degree remains the standard for entry into many professional careers and which makes getting a bachelor’s degree can be the ticket to a more promising career. Typically only 30 to 36 credits and 10 to 12 courses—will be in our major area of study.

In most cases, we cannot attend a professional graduate school in law, medicine, or teacher education unless we hold a bachelor’s degree. That means we will almost always need a bachelor’s before enrolling in a master’s program to open the door to even more career opportunities.
